This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are a full spectrum with a diverse campus in race, culture, socioeconomic status, and interests. Our campus serves approximately 635 students, grades 7th thru 8th and between the ages of 12 to 14. Ethnically our students are approximately 87% minorities with 45% being Latin American, 26% African American, and 13% Asian and Pacific Islander. Around 25% of our students are currently English Language Learners. At our school, we have 10% of our population receiving services from our Special Education department. We have students coming from all over the district including many who are also English language learners. Our students come from a variety of cultures and socio-economic levels which also means that many students don't have options outside of school.
Extracurricular Physical Education options for our students need to be supported to encourage a lifetime love of healthy living.
My Project
For student athletes it is vital for them to prepare for their upcoming sport seasons before they hit the field. Having curl bars will allow us to develop a fitness conditioning program that includes strength training before they go onto the field. Our school is lucky enough to have a coed flag football team, coed volleyball team, both girls & boys basketball team, and both girls & boys soccer team. The curl bars will give them an intro in strength training well preparing them for their upcoming seasons. The curl bars will give students options as they develop a training program
Preparation before practice can make the biggest difference.
Having curl bars will prepare our students for their seasons by introducing the use of strength training. The curl bars will bring a more well-rounded training program for our student-athletes. We can start a foundation now that will help our students in their future sports career or fitness journey.
