My Project
The coming-of-age narrative is a literary cornerstone. Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five, have crafted a powerful masterpiece in Punching the Air. This novel-in-verse follows a young man wrongfully incarcerated, as he grapples with maintaining his humanity and fighting for justice within a system designed to erode both.
I believe this book has the potential to redefine how students perceive poetry and the coming-of-age genre.
By immersing themselves in Amal's story, they will be challenged to think critically about storytelling, social justice, and the power of the human spirit.
I'm thrilled to be returning to the classroom with a new group of 10th graders. Their energy, curiosity, and passion are inspiring. I can't wait to ignite thought-provoking discussions and create a dynamic learning environment. Punching the Air will undoubtedly be a catalyst for extraordinary conversations and growth.
