My Students

Teaching seniors is one of the best parts of my job. Twelfth graders are at this pivotal place in their lives: making a choice about what the next step on their path will be after high school. The work they do in their senior year is often serving as the platform from which they will dive off of into the pool of adulthood.

My students come from all over our city to attend our school and as a result, our student body is an incredible blend of languages, cultures, and experiences that make it such a special place to learn.

With the uncertainty that this upcoming school year brings for school communities across the country, I hope my classroom - in person or remotely - will continue to be a space where students are challenged, engaged, and discover more about who they are becoming.

My Project

As schools across the country are faced with numerous financial challenges, I am unwilling to let this get in the way of bringing high-quality materials to my AP Literature students this upcoming school year.

I have selected two new novels: Exit West: A Novel by Mohsin Hamid and Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng as part of the important work my students will take on.

As I begin my 13th year of teaching this fall, I know it is more important than ever that I continue to challenge the cannon and bring a diverse collection of authors, stories, and voices into our classroom - be it in person or remote. These two novels will help make this possible.

With your support, my students will be able to explore a new cannon of fiction that will shape numerous conversations in the upcoming school year, and with any luck, will be novels that stay with them in the years to come.
