Challenge in the Classroom: Disney's Planet Challenge
My students need safety goggles, binoculars, specimen viewers, a camera with zoom, eye droppers, test tubes, and bird activity cards to develop a love for nature.
Environmental challenges face each and every one of us each day. We wonder about our electricity usage, our gasoline consumption, and our world's needs both near and afar. My students discuss and wonder about the same challenges facing their families.
Many of my students are poverty-stricken and all of them live in a rural area in Indiana.
I encourage discussions about the environment and ways to prevent further destruction of our natural resources. DISNEY'S PLANET CHALLENGE has motivated our classroom and my school to delve deeper into the problems that face our world.
My Project
In light of our discussions, I've found that many of the students throughout our elementary school, have not had the opportunity to investigate nature and observe it. With a specimen viewer, binoculars, goggles, a camera, activity cards, eyedroppers, and test tubes, we would be able to investigate nature, observe the wildlife, record our findings, and classify pictures. Long ago there was a trail, but it's overgrown. When I became a teacher, I used these resources, and many families brought their children to the school grounds and used these resources outside of school time. With your help, will be able to re-establish the marsh and nature trail so that the children can read in the nature trail, explore the wildlife that lives there and record pictures of the wildlife and plants. I am also the school web page developer and would like to create interactive web sites to go along with the site, so that children can share what they observe outside.
Now, these areas have diminished and my colleagues and I have written countless grants in an effort to re-establish these areas.
We would like to acquire the materials in this proposal which would allow the students to observe, and investigate the animals, insects, and plants during daily nature trail walks. Please help me help our school through DISNEY'S PLANET CHALLENGE.
