My students need comfortable chairs for our new reading center! These chairs will help get students excited about free, independent reading in Spanish.
I teach Spanish 2, 3, and 4 to 9th, 10th and 11th grade students who are passionate about learning Spanish and understand the benefits of learning a second language.
My students are a diverse group of learners in New York City who come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
I teach at a small school with limited resources. Classes are generally very large. This year, I have 30 students in my 9th grade Spanish 2 Class. Some of them have been studying Spanish for one year. Others have never formally studied Spanish, but speak Spanish at home. For this reason, the students have varying levels of proficiency and very different needs.
My Project
Due to the varying levels of proficiency in my class, I need to provide options for my learners. At times, some students will be doing a whole class activity, while others will be reading literature in Spanish. I want to keep all students engaged and learning at all times, including my more advanced students.
I am creating a reading center, so that students can develop a love for reading books in Spanish.
Reading is the best way for students to increase their vocabulary, improve their grammar, and learn more about the culture of the Spanish speaking world. I would like to give my students incentive to read and the resources to challenge themselves.
These chairs will be a fabulous addition to my Spanish reading center and will help create a warm and inviting feeling in the classroom. I know the students will be thrilled to have a comfortable place to sit while reading.
