Chair Organization

My students need a way for them to learn organization and to keep classroom movement to a minimum. All they are asking for is chair pockets to help them learn this skill.

My Students

Do you remember the first time that you arrived in Kindergarten. Well I get to see it every year. One thing that my little babies need is help so that they don't feel so overwhelmed.

I have 18 wonderful kindergartners who are my joy to go to work everyday.

My students attend a public school in Florida that has about 80% of its students on free of reduced lunch. We are a multicultural school with a fairly distributed ethnicity population. Last year I had 3 English Language Learners. Our school is in the first green school in the county and the students work hard to continue keeping the school green.

My Project

Now that you have learned about my students and school. I want you to think about to your first day at school. Now remember the backpack hooks and the cubbyholes. Remember how overwhelming all that felt. I want to lessen my students fears by giving them a why to stay organized. Organization is an important skill and I would love for my students to take pride in their chair. We do not have desk but the students sit at a table with other students. I want them to have a chance to say that this is mine and this is how I keep it clean. Students love to show their parents their chairs and I have heard them tell their parents that they have to get up and go and get something from their cubby across the room. This takes time from their work to do this and a chair pocket will help them keep everything close by and help start the organizational skills that they will need to be successful.

Please remember that kindergarten is these students first time in school.

Lets show them how they can have individual space in a classroom with other students even if they don't have a desk. I know that my students will feel better about having their supplies near them instead of across the room. Please help my babies learn to become organized and personalize their individual space.
