My Students

This is my second year teaching Pre-K in a NYC public school. I have 13 students that I just met today! I have 6 boys and 7 girls. Each of them arrived eager to learn and so excited to begin their school career. Pre-K is the beginning and I believe it is never too early to teach children how to be explorers, discoverers and creators. It is through play that children learn best. When a student is engaged they learn and grow. I would really appreciate your support in getting these items and helping to make my students’ first school year, one to remember. I want to continue to instill a love of learning, imaginative play and risk-taking that will last each of them a lifetime!

My Project

Learning about the value of money is a very challenging concept, for even an adult. I believe that if I introduce this concept in my Pre-K classroom so many lessons will be learned at a young age. The cash register will be a wonderful addition to my Math center and Dramatic Play center. My students will be able to buy items and pay for them just like they see their parents do. What a wonderful way to create a real life connection. The books I am requesting are both fiction and non fiction. They will be added to my library once we read them. My hope is that my students will look at them again and again and then use the coin stampers I am requesting to create money of their own. The translucent numbers, letters, and buttons will be incorporated into my Science Center. But the children will have to use their paper coins to purchase them. This will help my young learners that items cost money. In addition, the magnetic prewriting board and tracing numbers will help to prepare my students for their future writing needs. The dry erase markers are fine tipwhich will be used on the tracing numbers. These items will help improve their fine motor skills, dexterity and hand strength. I would really appreciate your support on this project and helping to bringing financial literacy to my Pre-K classroom.
