This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Deane Elementary School is a Title-1 school in Jefferson County, where 80% of the students are on free or reduced lunch services. We have a wide variety of students that are also English Language Learners from a variety of countries around the world.

Students at Deane Elementary were highly impacted by Covid-19, when we went to remote learning, some families were with out internet service so they were unable to attend school online.

The students who were able to attend online, didn't have any art supplies at home. Art is a way for students to create and express their own emotions and ideas through their given medium. With my students background, knowing many of them do not have access to all the art supplies we have at school, each year I try to plan lessons that allow students to experience a wide variety of mediums creating works of art in 2D and 3D. With the clay, glazes, and variety of tools I am asking for, students in grades kindergarten through 6th grade will have the opportunity to make memorable projects they will keep for years to come. Some of the projects might include; kindergarten clay hands that are a small decorative dish, texture tiles, miniature 3D landscapes, their own original creatures, or memory cups that 6th grade creates about Elementary School. If you ask my students what their favorite project is, the answer is always clay. By having this wish fulfilled, students will learn how to start a project by making a 2D plan and creating it with clay into a 3D work of art. Clay teaches students how to be flexible, patient, and creative all while exploring and experimenting with a different medium.
