This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Remember when you were little and did phonics in the classroom? We practiced language skills by writing words over and over in workbooks? What if instead you got to use a fun, interactive center?
My students are first graders from a low income neighborhood in the city.
There are 26 children in the classroom and they are all amazing. There are 8 students who have English as a second language and 3 students with emotional and learning disabilities. Despite these barriers, they all work hard and are very motivated. These students are exceptional!
My Project
My students are primarily English Language Learners. They would love language centers! This would allow them to practice specific language skills they need extra help with. It also gives them extra chances to achieve skills that are more difficult for them. Having these language centers would make learning these phonics skills more fun. Currently we have one of these centers that only 4 children can use at a time. We would love more so everyone could get a turn!
This project would allow my students the chance to become more independent as they work to learn English better.
Having these centers would motivate my students and promote extra practice and support as they need it. Learning these language skills will give my students a chance at a more successful future.
