Centering Our Learning on Math and Reading!

My students need center games to enhance their learning in math and reading during our amazing centers time during the day.

My Students

Centers are amazing.... if you have the right materials. These games will increase sight word recognition, phonics, vocabulary and math addition and subtraction skills.

My students live on a reservation in South Dakota.

We have a K-12 school, which children from miles around come to. Our students are inquisitive, amazing individuals. They have been counted out, but continually rise to the challenges they are presented with when people do not lower the expectations. These children will be the leaders of this community and carry on their culture to the next generation.

My Project

We do centers everyday in our classroom. It centers the learning on specific topics for an amount of time that is great for a 1st grader. They love reading and math centers. But I would love for them to have more variety in their center work than just writing sight words on white boards. The new materials will make these centers more inviting, more conducive to learning, and make learning fun.

This project is so important because we have a long way to go to be on 2nd grade level.

On average, my students came into my class knowing 7 sight words. By the end of this year they are supposed to know 200. My students came in reading on a half year level (middle of kindergarten). We are working on making a year and a half growth. These are ambitious goals. And with your support, these center games will help us strive towards them.
