My Students

I work with 7th and 8th grade, special education, language arts students. They ask lots of questions and are working to improve their reading abilities, so they can become successful adults. The school has a diverse population of approximately 1200 middle school students.

The students have varying backgrounds and learning abilities, but they work as a team to learn and teach each other in the classroom, and everyone is treated fairly and without prejudice.

Each and every one of the students want to succeed as well as help their peers to do so as well.

My Project

I would like have two Big Joe Aloha Chairs to create a reading center in my classroom where students can go and read in a comfortable environment. My students are all struggling readers and I am the third teacher they have had this year. I am working to make the classroom a place where they want to come and they want to read.

My students come from a variety of home environments and a quiet place to read is hard to come by sometimes.

I am hoping that having a place where the students want to sit, but they must be reading, will encourage them to pick up a book and get lost in another time and place.
