Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be teaching Kindergarten this upcoming school year. Our school is located in a low-income, high-crime area. I see that my students are faced with challenges both inside and outside the classroom. However, I do all that I can to provide an environment that is consistent, fun and engaging so they can get the most out of their days in my room.

My students are creative, clever, and very unique.

They like to move, and they love to receive lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and some in non-English-speaking families. They all receive a free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

My Project

A big part of kindergarten is working in centers. I am hoping to create some fun, educational stations that my students will enjoy going to to practice what we are learning in class.

Students are excited to learn when learning is fun.

I am putting together some activities that my students can complete independently while I am holding small group guided reading lessons.

Letter stamps and ink help create the perfect way to stamp out new words we learned. Worksheets can be used over and over again without making excessive copies by using pocket sleeves and dry erase markers. I've included books about letters, phonics, word wall words, and even math to provide different instruction.

Also, the magnetic letters will be used to create words and help sound out letters.
