Help me give my students more individualized center time with their own book boxes, giant timers, engaging centers, and charged iPads.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Oulton's classroom raised $243

My Students
My students are energetic, creative and full of life. For most of them, kindergarten is their first experience in a school setting. They enter the classroom ready to learn, explore and discover.
I teach at a Title I school so many of my students come from low-income households.
They may not have all the resources that some students have, but they don't let that stop them! In my classroom, you will find tomorrow's brightest doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers and whatever else they dream of becoming.
Trust me when I say, it is one of the greatest joys to be a part of their success. If you could only see how they beam with joy as they proudly learn to identify letters and begin to write.
My Project
I am so excited to use book boxes in my classroom. Each student will have their own box to keep books in that they know how to read. Having access to books at their level can open up a whole new world for my students!
We are also going to use baseball playing card protectors to practice sight words.
I have been reading research about how a child will not fully know a word until they have successfully read it 10 times. I read about a strategy that suggests having several pockets. Put the new words in the first pocket. When the student reads it successfully on their own, they get to move it to the next pocket. Then they proceed to read all of the words in the other pockets and move them up to the next pocket or leave it in the current pocket if they couldn't remember it. In kinder, we learn 100 sight words. This resources is an incredibly simplistic way for me to customize their sight word learning to each individual student's needs.
I also asked for some jumbo timers. I have found that having the timer up on the Smart Board is not working well. I either am working with a small group and forget to start it or I need to pull up a resource for small group that covers it up. The timers will allow time management to be at my student's level and to be student run.
Last, I asked for a power strip that can charge twelve iPads at once. This will help ensure that students have a working iPad when they are doing their iPad center. This is very important to their learning because the iPad programs adjust to their mistakes and give them an individualized learning path.
