I teach in a classroom where we are excited about what we do. We are expressive, critical thinkers. We take risks, we learn from our mistakes, and we celebrate our successes.
I teach orchestra to approximately 200 students in grades 6-8.
We are learners and musicians. We are excited about what we do, and we use music to explore history, science, literacy, and other arts. My students are racially and socioeconomically diverse but they all have one thing in common: they are aspiring musicians.
My Project
Every student in my school district has the opportunity to join band, choir, or orchestra in 6th grade. I love teaching in a school that gives every child exposure to a performance music class! So many kids don't even know that they are passionate about playing an instrument yet, and I get to be there when they find out!
My teaching team truly believes that every student who has the desire deserves the chance to learn an instrument.
Unfortunately, the number of students we teach is growing faster than our budget is increasing. We add instruments to our inventory as we can, but this increases our maintenance and repair costs. We're definitely caught in a vicious cycle.
So far, we have been able to provide an instrument to every child who has needed one. And we are committed to continuing this practice. A donation towards this project would help us keep it up. And more importantly, it will put an instrument in the hands of an eager learner! And next year, another learner. And so on and so on for years to come
Thank you for considering a donation. This cello just could be the spark that ignites a passion in an eager future musician!
