Hello, my name is Lacey and I am a High School Art Teacher trying to teach in the 21st century with one huge problem....CELL PHONE ADDICTION!
It is very important for me to provide a classroom environment where my students feel they can be successful and creative.
Trying to battle for my students attention can be a challenge, when their phones are a constant distraction. A report from Common Sense Media shows "more than half of all tweens and teens spend four or more hours a day using cell phone devices; some use their devices in excess of eight hours a day. It’s no wonder nearly half of U.S. parents worry their children are addicted to their mobile devices."
If my project is funded I would use the resources to purchase two cell phone jails for my department. These clear lockers would be useful as each student would be assigned a locker with a key that they would have access to for the class period. The participating students would lock up their phones at the beginning of the hour and then unlock them when the class period is over.
I understand that emergencies happen and a student may need to have quick access to their phone. The key system has it so that each student has a unique key tied to their locker number for the hour. So they can access their phone at any time and return it to their locker when finished.
I am looking forward to utilizing this locker system to help my students stay on task and on track towards being more successful in my classroom. Thank you for all of your help!
