My Project

Have you ever been rewarded for a job well done? Even as adults it feels good to get that extra bonus, written card, or even a piece of chocolate acknowledging hard work. That little something that you can hold in your hand, touch, see, and show to other people. Although children need to learn the value of intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation can also have value, especially with children at the elementary level. Physical rewards add another layer of incentives to celebrate a child's milestones, achievements, and good behaviors and promote a sense of accomplishment.

My goal, in part, for this project is that my students will set their own personal goals to earn the rewards that they want.

Then they will work towards earning that reward. Rewards will be earned through tickets. As students get rewarded for academic achievements, good behavior, etc. they will accumulate tickets which can be exchanged for a reward of their choice. The ticket exchange will take place on a regular basis from our classroom store.

Because the students will exchange tickets for their reward, they will need to keep in mind the value of the reward, how and when they want to spend their tickets and decide how to save tickets for what they want. In essence, my students will need to have some understanding of the economic value and learn that for the bigger rewards long-term planning and saving is essential.

My students are hard workers. Every day they come to school ready to learn. They set goals and make goals. I would love to reward their work in this special way. They deserve to be celebrated!
