Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is a barrier-free, Title I funded school, home to over 1,500 students, with over 70 languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.

Our class takes pride in their diversity!

We have over 25 countries represented in our class this year and work hard to honor all cultures. We will be celebrating the Lunar New Year with many books that will be read aloud to the class. We will learn about the many traditions that happen during this holiday. My students are struggling in both reading and writing and at this point in the year they need to start writing in paragraphs. The read aloudbook will be used to learn more about this important holiday. The guides will be used in small group instruction to model how to write a paragraph with a topic sentence, details, and a conclusion. The children will use the models to practice finding and writing a main idea with details. They will work on writing narratives, opinion writing, and non-fiction writing about Chinese New Year.
