This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The book “Under the Ramadan Moon,” will help my immigrant students learn literacy skills and celebrate their culture. Family literacy is a unique program in which parents learn English and literacy skills to help prepare their preschool children, who are enrolled in school readiness classes next door.

Seventy percent of our students are minorities, with an increasing population of Afghan refugees.

The majority of my students are refugees from Afghanistan, and I have few books in my collection celebrating Afghan culture. I have selected Under the Ramadan Moon because of it’s simple, yet beautiful English.

Parents will practice reading the book and learn the vocabulary in English class. Then they will read the book and participate in activities related to the book with their children.
