Celebrating Our Learning Part 2

My Project

As part of our efforts to better prepare students for future careers, we are hoping to help students showcase their learning and celebrate what they accomplish during the school year, in alignment with both our PBIS pillars and the competencies described in our district’s portrait of a graduate.

As part of this celebration of learning, we want to encourage our students, who are choosing to participate in this enrichment experience outside of their regular classes, with community building and meals each time we meet to work on their portfolios.

In this project, we have requested gift cards to our local grocery store. Students will use these to plan for and purchase food to share during our meetings in which we work on building their celebration of learning. As they build a portfolio that demonstrates what they are proud of, we want them to build community as well. Working as a team to choose the snacks and meals that they will share during their time together will serve as both a reward and a lesson in navigating decisions as a group with varied opinions. These gift cards will help them choose their reward as a group of student leaders.

These gift cards will also serve as a PBIS incentive, as our students are upholding our school goals of being responsible and motivated (part of our PBIS program) by volunteering to helping design this showcase of the pride they find in learning. These will also serve as a group project tool for this experiential learning activity, as students will work as a group to determine what food and party elements we will spend the gift cards on as we build this program for celebrating learning that eventually every student in our school will participate in.
