Celebrating Middle School Achievement Through Puma Paws and Positivity!

My Students

Middle school is a time of change, searching, pressure, growth, and beauty. My middle school students cheer each other on when they're nominated for Student of the Month, or have met the goals of their behavior plan, or do well on a test! They speak up and let staff know when a friend is struggling emotionally. My students weather the ups and downs of life's storms in a typical year...and the last couple years have been anything but typical. I'm constantly amazed at the support my students provide one another in these really challenging times.

My Project

My students rise to meet our expectations when they know what the classroom and school expectations are and are acknowledged when they meet them. They, like all of us, appreciate being seen and recognized! Students earn "Puma Paws" when school staff see them meeting and exceeding our school expectations and they get excited about the opportunity to turn in their Puma Paws for things like being Principal of the Day, co-teaching a class, and buying school swag.

In this particularly difficult couple years for students, our school's positive behavior team is attempting to sprinkle in some joy wherever we can!

To that end, the materials we've requested will serve the purpose of acknowledging student's positive behavior and adding some extra joy to their days. To honor student voice, we've surveyed students and received their feedback about what type of incentives they especially appreciate (especially important in middle school, where students are starting to have more voice and choice in their academic and personal lives).

We are excited to be able to offer more choice and fun to our "Puma Paw" menu of incentives with these materials!
