Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school celebrates diversity. We want students to belong and be proud of their cultural traditions. Our district encourages everyone to accept people as they are. All people are welcome, all cultures, all genders, all beliefs, all religions, all orientations, and all ages.

Celebrating cultural traditions is important.

Many of of my students celebrate Lunar New Year. This project includes white rabbit candy, red lucky envelopes, acrylic paints, acrylic paint brushes, glue, metal pendant trays for jewelry, sealant for metal jewelry, stickers, socks and star projectors.

The star projectors will introduce our Lunar New Year lesson. Walking into the room with the stars and the moon being projected on the ceiling will be a wonderful way for my students to learn that Lunar New Year begins on the first new moon of the Lunar Calendar and ends with the first full moon of the Lunar Calendar.

My students will use the materials in this project to make art inspired by Lunar New Year. It's the year of the dragon. My students will use the paints and paint brushes to make art that depicts dragons and kanji characters wishing people good luck. We will use the jewelry pendants to make our own jewelry. We will coat the metal pendant trays with Eternal Jewelry Coating to protect the metal pendant tray. Students will coat the dragon stickers with the diamond gloss, diamond glaze and add sealant to protect the image. We will use the glue to secure the dragon image into the pendant tray and use string we already have in class to make dragon necklaces.

It's tradition to wear new clothes on Lunar New Year. My students will get socks so they can wear new socks Lunar New Year. My students will also get candy and a red envelope!
