This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in an inner-city public school, I've learned so much from my students and they inspire me to strive to be the best teacher that I can be. I teach in a Title I school where most of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Although​ they face hardships and cope with a variety of circumstances outside of my classroom, they remain resilient and determined to grow as lifelong learners. I teach 30 bright and enthusiastic third-grade girls in a high-needs area of New York City.

My students walk into my classroom with ​incredible enthusiasm and a willingness to take risks on a daily basis.

My Project

Celebrating success and merit offers encouragement as students work towards achieving their reading, writing and math goals. Incentives help to motivate and inspire ALL students to do their very best.

Recognizing and celebrating ALL of the hard work that my students are demonstrating on a daily basis will keep them motivated, especially when the work is challenging.

I have found that coupling praise and positive reinforcements with tangible incentives has been a way to recognize all of my students. My goal is to use tangible incentives like scented stickers, pencils, neon crayons, fun socks and bubble wands to keep students motivated especially when they're working hard and showing perseverance.

Having these tokens of encouragement on hand to celebrate success and productivity in the classroom will certainly put a smile on my student's faces and keep them motivated throughout the learning process.
