My students need 20 copies of the book Me... Jane to learn about Earth Day. They will explore concepts of endangered species and recycling by seeing the Disneynature film, Chimpanzee.
My students live in apartments and in an urban environment. They need to learn about "doing their part" to reduce, reuse and recycle by packing a reusable lunch bag and taking the promise to talk to their families about saving the earth.
Students that attend our school come from a variety of different socioeconomic backgrounds.
All of the kids receive free breakfast and a lot of the students get free or reduced lunch. Kids are not always given the opportunity to go to a museum or attend activities once they go home. We would love to walk to the movies for our field trip as a group to provide them with a sense of a community.
My Project
My students need 20 copies of the book Me... Jane to learn about Earth Day. We are going on a walking field trip to the movies to see "Chimpanzee" the Disney nature movie that will be put out in Celebration of Earth Day. Chimpanzee is a new true life adventure introducing a lovable young Chimpanzee named Oscar in a story of family bonds. The Jane Goodall Institute is promoting protecting chimpanzees by celebrating Earth Day and "swinging into theaters." I would love to share the book Me... Jane, by Patrick McDonnell with my class to talk about Jane. I will read the book and talk about endangered species, reducing, reusing and recycling materials, discuss disappearing habitats, the food chain, pollution and extinction. The students will work on Eco Activities by packing a "green lunch" (using reusable lunch bags, containers, packing sandwiches and using as much organic foods as possible). I am making an effort to have the kids "Do Your Part".
I am encouraging students to make good choices and do the right thing.
We need to teach them what it means to do the right thing, by enhancing the curriculum starting at home to "Go Green". This community-centered effort to develop an environmentally friendly atmosphere will help students understand the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. Students will pack a "green lunch" with an Eco Activity. We would love to read the book Me...Jane to support celebrating Earth Day.
