This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I never thought I’d become a virtual teacher, but here we are! We are here, and we are trying to make the best of the situation! Though my students come from different backgrounds and nationalities, they all learn through play and hands-on experiences. Some of them speak Spanish as a first language.
They yearn to connect and learn from one another.
My students come to kindergarten with a range of prior knowledge, however, I differentiate instruction to cater to all their needs. They are full of energy and they learn best from moving and acting out.
Every day, we sing songs together and learn new concepts through our Zoom meetings. I also send my students videos with more teachings. We are using many platforms to assign engaging activities. It still doesn’t take the place of classroom learning and fun.
It’s a trying time for students, teachers, and parents but we have to continue to push forward with a smile on our faces for our children.
My Project
At the elementary level, students are still molding and changing based on their experiences and exposure in life. Children will look at the adults in their life for examples of what is acceptable, however culturally diverse books are also a powerful resource that can teach lessons of love, respect and acceptance.
I want to teach my students how to be loving, open-minded individuals.These books are a fun and entertaining way to teach my students the importance of embracing others and their differences.
The world can use more acceptance, kindness and love, I hope to instill this in my students everyday!
