My Project

Our classroom is a vibrant and diverse learning community where students come from many cultural backgrounds. As we strive to create an inclusive environment that reflects and honors every child’s identity, we are seeking support to enhance our classroom library with books for Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month. In addition, we would love to include skin tone markers and stickers in Spanish to support creative expression and language development for all our students.

This matters because representation in education is powerful.

When students see themselves reflected in the books they read and the materials they use, it affirms their identities and fosters a deeper connection to learning. Books that celebrate Black and Hispanic heritage allow all students to understand, appreciate, and value the contributions, struggles, and rich cultures of these groups. By expanding our collection with titles that highlight these cultures, we can celebrate meaningful and engaging ways. These books will serve as mirrors and windows—mirrors in which students can see themselves, and windows through which they can learn about others.

We are also asking for skin tone markers so that our students can accurately and proudly represent themselves and others in their art. Representation in art is just as important as in literature. It allows students to celebrate differences, recognize similarities, and feel seen. Spanish-language stickers are another simple but powerful tool. Many of our students are bilingual. With your help, we can create a classroom that celebrates diversity and fosters understanding! These books and materials are not just resources—they are tools for empowerment, empathy, and connection. Thank you for considering supporting our students in this important journey of learning and celebration!
