My Students

My kindergarten classroom has curious, fun, energetic students. Students will be returning from a virtual world of learning and entering school for the first time since March 2019, when they were preschoolers. These amazing kiddos are excited and anxious about rejoining in-person learning, although their idea of school may be much different than the reality they are walking into. I would like to be able to support them through this project.

In my classroom, I strive to create a positive learning environment that celebrates differences and makes all of my students feel comfortable and excited to learn!

The students in my classroom represent many different cultures, languages, and ethnic groups and we work every day to support each individual student in their journey. They need materials and toys that are representative of their ethnicity and culture.

My Project

With the evolving world around us, I feel it is important to expand my classroom selection of books, toys, and art supplies. All students deserve to see books and toys that represent who they are as people. The toys and books I have chosen include diverse cultures, backgrounds, families, and disabilities. Through the integration of multi-racial toys, books, and art projects, I seek to promote racial equity, inclusivity, and anti-racial practices in our young learners.

I want to enhance the message of diversity, inclusion, and antiracism in our classroom through the use of books, toys, and art.

In Celebrating Diversity 1-3, I have received books and toys that represented diverse populations and cultures and I would like to expand on those materials with this project.

These books, toys, and art supplies will serve as windows and mirrors for my students: through windows, students see diverse perspectives and cultures and in mirrors, students see their own experiences and culture reflected. Both are vital to producing educated, empathetic, and responsible citizens.
