My Students

My students are a diverse group that blends together to help each other learn and be successful. At our school, we strive to create a "family" where students from all different grade levels and personal backgrounds feel comfortable and confident in themselves, each other and their teachers. We strive to create a school where people feel valued as an individual and as a learner. Everyone has something to offer and everyone is an important part of the "family."

At our school, our mantra is that we are " The best at getting better." Which means we (students and staff alike) are always trying to grow as people and learners.

My Project

I was inspired by a fellow teacher who had a growth wall. When students showed growth on assessments or in behavior she gave them a post-it to decorate and put on the wall. By the end of the year, the wall was filled with student growth and achievement. I want to take the idea and put my own flair on it.

I want to create a classroom where students are excited and motivated to show growth, kindness, and respect and in turn empower others to do the same.

I will use the camera and fill to take pictures of students who show growth in the classroom. Students can show growth in many different ways including improved grades on assessments, changing negative behaviors to positive ones and by showing kindness and respect to others. When these are noticed I want to take the students picture and place them on the Awesomeness Wall. I will keep a checklist of all the students in the class. That way at some point during the year I want to catch every student showing their awesomeness in some way. Eventually, everyone will get their picture on the wall. My hope is that seeing others try hard and showing kindness and respect to others will cause others in the ​class to be motivated to do the same.
