My Project

My classroom of culturally diverse kindergarten students loves to learn. One important skill being taught is reading. English Language Learners would benefit from exposure to literacy materials in their native language. When my students are choosing books to independently read, I want to be able to provide a special bin that contains a variety of bilingual books that will provide vocabulary in their native language of Spanish as well as English. These bilingual books can be checked out by families to support their reading development at home so parents can read along with their child.

All kindergarten students will benefit from exposure to multicultural learning materials throughout the classroom.

I feel that it is important to include toys and materials that represent all students in my classroom so that everyone feels relevant as one classroom family. Some activities that would be used often are puzzles, books, and drawing materials that represent diversity. This will create a positive learning environment for all students.
