Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to me at a variety of levels, but all are eager to learn in Kindergarten. Many of my students will be attending school for the first time and are new to a school environment. They are excited for their first year of school and also nervous about new people and routines.

I teach at a Title I school in Tampa where over 90% of students are on the free lunch program.

Most of our student population is Hispanic/Latino, and our families typically have multiple students. Since many of my students are still new to the English language, they are mostly visual learners and need more exposure to vocabulary.

My students want to learn. My families want the best education for their children. I want to allow my students the same opportunities as any other kindergarten class while still accommodating their different needs and preparing them for the ever changing 21st century jobs they will have.

My Project

There is so much pressure these days to learn things sooner and to have mastery of skills that were once not even thought of in the current grade levels they reside in. Kindergarten is still for many students a year of exposure and should be a year of fun. I want to make sure my students are able to learn the expected skills, but still keep school fun and entertaining.

We all know that children love music and watching videos and playing games - why not incorporate those things into their learning and let them grow their brains while having fun.

I am requesting Heidi's Perfect Classroom Combo. These tools will help us learn and practice our skills in all subject areas including math, science, reading, and basic skills. Who wouldn't want to dance along with their sight words or sing their math skills or even do a science game? Heidi Songs will help us keep the fun in fundamental skills.
