CD Players For Second Grade Literacy Center

I would love to have six individual CD players so my students can listen to disks and follow along in matching books during literacy centers while I work with other reading groups.

I teach second grade in an urban school where most of our parents are struggling to make ends meet. We have many immigrants from war-torn countries such as Somalia and Burma. Our students have such motivation to succeed and we do everything we can to help them achieve their goals.

My students love to read and always want me to read to them. I have many books donated by corporations, churches and a synagogue which is a blessing! I also have books with CDs but no CD player!

I would love to have six individual CD players so my students can sit and enjoy some wonderful books by themselves while I work with other reading groups. Children need to hear proper phrasing and expressive readers to help them become fluent readers.

I can't tell you how beneficial it will be for my students to have these CD players! I know they will want to listen to stories every day! With six CD players, I can have 12 children a day exposed to quality literature in an individual, personal way. They will experience no distractions and will be very focused on a worthwhile activity!
