My Students

My students are adventurous, excited, and bright kids with big ideas and bigger personalities. My school's boundaries include an Air Force Base, so my students have lived all over the world. Their life-experiences and diverse backgrounds add an invaluable element to my classroom.

My students' learning needs are as diverse as their vast individual backgrounds.

For each of my students, diverse texts and learning experiences are vastly important. Equally as important is that each student in my classroom feels safe and supported.

By providing a wide variety of educational experiences, technology, novels, and ensuring my students have the tools they need to be successful, I will enable all of my students to have an equal chance at success and a life-long love of learning and reading.

My Project

Poet Joshua T. Dickerson explained the plight of a student who did not have the supplies needed for school. This student also was responsible for their younger sister, dealing with real-life issues, and facing the insurmountable task of continuing to show up to school in difficult circumstances; however, when this student "got to class the teacher fussed at me, cause I ain't got a pencil".

A pencil should not be what stands in the way between a student and success.

By providing what materials I can, I can ensure that students feel comfortable in my classroom, welcome, and taken care of. If I can make sure that a student isn't worried about a pencil, I can spend my instructional time instead helping them grasp concepts and participate wholly in school.
