I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestra, 8th grade general music and general music for our Access students. I may not have a quiet classroom, but my students are busy learning to play their instruments!
All students at my school receive free and reduced lunch due to a community eligibility federal program.
My students are inquisitive, caring, and eager to learn. My school is very diverse racially, and I enjoy the diversity among our students. Students at my school want to succeed and do well in school. The fine arts budget at my school has been severely cut due to economic times, but my students continue to learn and our programs continue to grow.
My Project
My school was fortunate to recently receive a grant to purchase six new cellos. The instruments are beautiful quality and have a great sound. My students love playing them!
Like all orchestra teachers I am constantly replacing old and broken strings to make sure my students can produce the best possible sound on their instruments.
Because old strings can sound dull, some schools try to replace strings on all instruments every few years. With our current orchestra budget, I only replace strings when they break on a student instrument.
Cello and bass strings are particularly expensive due to more metal being needed to produce a quality string. I am requesting four sets of quality cello strings that will be used on our cellos when the strings break and need replaced.
