My students need 25 subscriptions to Scholastic News magazine to keep them up to date on current events and motivate them to read more non-fiction.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you love coming home and finding your favorite magazine waiting for you in your mailbox? My students would love to come to class each week and find their own magazines waiting for them!
My students are curious 4th graders from high poverty inner city neighborhoods.
Many students came to school this September with little or no school supplies. They love learning and are always asking questions and talking about what they hear on the news.
My Project
A classroom subscription to Scholastic News magazine would help my students in many ways. Reading non-fiction requires different skills than reading fiction. These magazines will help students improve those skills and motivate them to read more non-fiction. These magazines will enable my students to understand what is happening in the world in a more in-depth way than just hearing it on the news, and they'll learn to develop their own opinions.
My students will feel pride in their knowledge of the world.
They'll be excited to take the magazines home with them and share them with their families. Knowing more about their country and the world will help them become better citizens.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
