My Project
As a third-grade teacher in a Title 1 school in Brighton, Colorado, I am seeing some significant impact from the pandemic in the classroom. There are more students than ever who are below grade level in literacy skills as they enter third grade. Through small group and direct instruction, I work hard to help kids gain the skills they are showing deficits with as quickly as possible to help them achieve closer to grade-level benchmarks and expectations. Another area of impact from the pandemic is social-emotional learning. Students need more social-emotional learning than ever because they have not had the opportunity to learn and practice many of the skills needed to get along with others, conduct themselves in a classroom, and persevere with a growth mindset throughout the day. The materials that I have requested will help me address both of these high-need learning areas in my classroom. I have requested multiple reading resources that can me deliver small-group instruction and meet student's reading needs. The social-emotional materials will help with activities for students to engage in each morning as we begin our day with a morning meeting and positive social-emotional skills we can use throughout our day.
