Catching Reads: Fueling a Fire for Reading

Help me give my students each a book of their own they can use during the novel unit.

My Project

Each year my Freshman and Sophomore English classes delve into a dystopian unit. I have used older texts in the past but recently began using newer versions. The students have jumped right in and are engaging more with these updated versions.

I have previously used online PDFs but have found that when students have the actual book in their hand, magic happens and they are able to better connect with the book world and their peers.

My goal is to give each student a copy of the book that they can interact and engage with as we complete our Dystopian novel unit. The Hunger Games books allow students to delve into the elements of dystopian literature as well as create critical thinking skills they can use in the real world.
