This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The students at our school are hardworking, kind and compassionate students who share a love of learning and reading.
In 3rd Grade, the students came up with a creative and engaging way to bring books to students in our own school - our very own book vending machine!
The students studied how children around the world overcome challenges by coming up with unique ways to access books.
The students learned about Nasreen, who lives in Herat, Afghanistan, and with the help of her grandma she needed to sneak into a secret school since girls were forbidden to attend school. Next, in The Librarian of Basra, the librarian needed to move her library to multiple hidden locations in order to be protected from war. In My Librarian is a Camel, the students studied real-life librarian’s who create mobile libraries using wagons, trucks, donkeys and camels to bring books to children in villages that do not have access to books.
The book vending machine will have rows of books for our youngest readers, our intermediate students and our middle school students. Students will be able to earn a coin and student can select a book of their choice!
The students have already raised $1,500 toward this project and we are looking to fund the book vending machine in its entirety! We appreciate your donation to our project and we are so excited to bring this project to our school!
