This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A little bit goes a long way, especially for those of us in a financially unstable, Title 1 school district.
We have secured various school supplies to begin our school store - "The Supply Box" - for our elementary life-skills classroom to work on functional work experiences; but now we need a cash register to officially get the ball rolling!
"The Supply Box" will be beneficial for our entire school and will help the classroom teachers minimize their personal spending to provide materials for their scholars.
My Project
We are almost fully locked and loaded to open our school store with the help of our wonderful life-skills class.
Life-skills students require repetitive examples and multi-modality approaches to learning; therefore, having the ease and access of our own real-life cash register for our school store will enhance functional skills and overall independence.
Learning to use a cash register will help prepare our students for life outside of the classroom and hopefully teach them the skills they need to be successful in holding down a job when they are older. When using the register to sell school supplies to their peers and staff members, we are not only building social skills but we are teaching the concept of money, organization and responsibility.
