Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Students walk into the classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Most of them struggle in academic areas such as math or reading, but technology helps motivate them to keep trying.

I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

A good percentage of our students have parents in the military. Many of the other parents have to work 2-3 jobs to make ends meet for their children. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. Most of them want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.

My Project

Currently I have a classroom set of iPads; however, I don't have cases for all of them. This means that I have five iPads in my classroom that I cannot use because they don't have cases on them. The result is students have to pair up and share devices.

Technology is a part of success for every student because it is such an important part of our society today.

Without cases on those devices I am not allowed to let students use them because the administration is afraid of students breaking the devices on accident. With a class working class set of devices I am able to create an enriched learning environment for every student. The covers help protect our technological investment so students in the years to come will also have an opportunity to utilize these rich learning experiences.
