Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students are from a school with limited resources. The music program has no budget, and, yet, we get through the year with donations. My students rehearse almost every day after school to supplement the time they may have during class. Many of my students prefer to stay in the music room before class, during lunch, and late after school.
My students are a mixture of 9th through 12th graders who are eager learners and members of the marching band, drum line, and the beginning bands.
New this year is an Advanced String Orchestra.
My Project
Next year I will be adding two more instrumental classes and they will need to be able to safely transport and store them. The instruments they use and carry are in desperate need of case replacements. The instruments in my program are old but in good working condition. My program doesn't offer me a budget so I would like to keep the instruments in working condition for as long as possible with the new cases.
The new cases will help me provide more students with the possibility of learning and improving on a musical instrument for many years to come.
