Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project will provide students with clay and carving tools so they can design and create their own Mayan hieroglyphs and miniature stone stelae—just like the Maya used to tell stories and record history. Through this immersive project, students will gain a deeper understanding of the Mayan writing system, one of the most advanced and visually rich systems of the ancient world.
Hands-on projects like this are incredibly powerful in helping all students—especially multilingual learners—connect with complex historical content in meaningful, memorable ways.
The tactile experience of carving into clay helps build comprehension and engagement, and gives students the chance to express themselves while exploring another culture’s way of communication.
With your help, my students will not only learn about the past—they’ll feel like part of it.
Thank you for helping my students bring ancient history to life!
