Cartooning 101: Talent Development Club Opportunity
My students need materials to create comic books on a topic of their choice. We will use the resources as part of our talent-development clusters here at our school.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Kenny's classroom raised $409

My Students
Boom! POW! Wow! BAM! Onomatopoeia is just one of the literacy terms students will be learning while creating their own comic books. Students will work collaboratively to create their comic books while combining language arts skills with fine arts skills.
We are an elementary school with students in grades 1-5.
My art students thrive on authentic art experiences and connections in my art room are made to help support the regular classroom teachers teaching their curriculum. Students are able to learn the content area concepts in a meaningful and different way through reinforcement in my art class.
My Project
Our students have a chance to participate in Talent Development Clusters within a club format. Course catalogs are distributed and students are able to choose an integrated academic activity that reinforces the common core subjects with the exploratory arts based on interest. Once the groups are formed they are able to create with direct application.
In this club, students will be creating comic books with the help of a guide that explains the writing process, provides templates, and suggestions in character and plot development in a real-world writing experience. Comic books will be shared with other students who were not part of this particular club so that everyone will benefit by the experience. Students who wrote the comics are able to share their individual masterpieces with an audience, while other students see this opportunity's end-result for consideration in the next club offering.
Our students will be able to integrate the arts with direct, hands-on, real-world application and produce a product that they can be proud of.
They also will be able to practice and directly apply the language arts skills that they are learning in the classroom in a way that ties in their direct interests. Students are able to work with other students with similar interests from other classrooms, providing social opportunities for enhancing our school community through a talent or interest.
