Carpets for Visual Support

Help me give my students a Daisy Alphabet and Numbers Carpet so my students will have a safe place to sit during circle time using the visuals on the carpet.

My Students

My classroom is a collection of significantly diverse learners who each have very special qualities requiring 1:1 to 1:3 instruction in the areas of academics, functional skills, behavioral skills, and social skills. The majority of my students require frequent sensory breaks and lack communication skills needed to express their wants and needs. Noises can be difficult so having a calming environment is beneficial to them and hands on learning if beneficial.

My classroom consists of 12 wonderfully, energetic students with Autism in both kindergarten and 1st grade.

My students are sensory driven and deserve to have their needs met​ in a safe environment. All of my students come from a low socio-economic background, so they often have difficulties acquiring therapeutic items which help fulfill their sensory needs. More than 50% of the population receives free school lunch.

My Project

The carpet in our room came with the classroom from a previous teacher. The students have to move chairs back and forth for our morning meeting. My students and I gather on the rug several times during the day for morning meeting, reading and math whole group discussions. I would love to have a nice, new, and inviting rug for my students that offer the visual supports the need and give a sensory input at the same time. A rug is not just a gathering place in an elementary classroom, but is also a useful classroom management tool that helps establish a sense of home for the students.
