My Students
My students are highest-poverty English Language Learners. We've had an influx of English Language Learners who have disabilities. So, not only do they struggle with learning how to read/write/speak English, they have specific learning disabilities that also inhibit their progress.
My kids are exquisite.
They work incredibly hard every day. Their dedication and perseverance would put most adults to shame! I work hard to ensure that they have a safe and secure learning environment where they can also have fun while learning!
My Project
In my class, the students are learning how to speak, read, write, and understand English. A big part of that is developing their speaking skills. We have conversation circles daily in my classroom. That's where the kids meet in either whole or small groups and discuss academic, social, and emotional issues. I typically have about 16 kids per group so I'd love to have a larger carpet where everyone could sit comfortably. This would help my students feel more comfortable to share their thoughts because they'd feel like that were actually a part of the group instead of being squished together.
