Save our buns please. Sitting on the hard floor in kindergarten makes it difficult for them to stay focused and listen during all our carpet time activities. Without a rug to help them find their seat and keep them in their own space, carpet time activities can be challenging at times.
My class of kindergarten students are a great group of diverse five and six-year-olds.
We are in a school district that is nearly 80 percent free and reduced lunch, so supplies and any supplemental materials can be very difficult for some families. Most of these kids are in the school setting for the first time and have mixed emotions between excited to be learning and overwhelmed that there is so many things to learn. Some of the kids are just learning English as well as trying to figure out what their letters and numbers are and how to hold a pencil. They have never really had to raise their hand to talk and sit criss-cross applesauce for more than a few minutes.
My Project
In kindergarten we have a lot of carpet time activities where the kids are sitting in the front of the room. We do calendar each and every day as well as stories, phonics lessons and the launch to all our other lessons. The only problem is that we don't have a rug for the kids to sit on. The kids are constantly complaining that their bottoms hurt and are always wiggling all around. Right now I just have tape down on the floor to try to help them sit in somewhat of a row, A rug would be a huge help to solve this problem. This would allow them to have a specific area to sit as well as give them a little cushion under their bottoms. We will also be able to tie in some phonics activities as well.
Please support this project, so my kids can have a more comfortable experience in their kindergarten class during carpet time activities.
Not only will you be helping their bottoms you will be saving us a lot of time of how to get into rows when we sit for for our lessons and how many people should be sitting in each row. I will be able to use this rug year after year, so not only will you be helping 26 kids this year but many more in the coming years. Mahalo Nui Loa!
