My students are seven and eight years old, living in a medium economic class in Oklahoma. I have 20 amazing 7 and 8 year olds whose imaginations are just as active as their bodies. Second graders need tactile, hands-on, and engaging activities to spur on their growth. Our school has supportive parents, but state budget cuts to education have meant cutting back on even essential items. Despite these budget constraints, the goal of our school is to reach every student every day, no matter what it takes. We will do whatever we can to meet each individual need.
My Project
Each day we meet on the carpet for morning meeting and whole group learning and we are in need of an updated and clean carpet. This new carpet will allow each student to have his or her own personal space, not to mention the carpet can be a learning tool as well. We like to move from the table, to the carpet, to small group activities, this new carpet will allow us to do so. The carpet is a meeting place, learning place and a place for the students to work individually or with a small group. The carpet is an important place in our classroom.
We need a carpet to help us with day to day instruction!
Right now we are without a carpet for whole group instruction. I would love for my kiddos to have their own space every time we had group time! As for the cushions they will allow students to take one and sit wherever they like. Adding these cushions will help create flexible seating for my students to learn in comfort.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
