This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a very low socioeconomic background and do not have the access to technology.

Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch. We have the highest rate off ELL (English language learners) in the state and a high amount of special education students.

My Project

My third grade classroom used to have wall-to-wall carpeting, which was stained and gave off a bad odor. We were fortunate enough to be one of the few classrooms in the school to get tile floors. Majority of classroom instruction takes place with students sitting on the floor. The students now need a carpet, which will allow them to sit comfortably. Now that there is tile in the classroom, the students are uncomfortable on the floor and not as engaged as they used to be. I have found that teaching this group of students on the floor rather than at their seats is more beneficial. Not only do students need a break from being in their seats, they also concentrate more on the assigned task. The students will also benefit from the easel. Because space is limited in the classroom, instructional posters could be displayed on the chalkboard while instruction is color coded on the easel. This will allow for students to achieve their academic goals in many different ways.

The students loved sitting on the carpet for instruction and listening to a story.

My students would appreciate having these two additional items in the classroom. A carpet will allow the students to learn comfortable and the easel will help students learn in different ways. Thank you!!
