When you were in first grade did you remember circle time and reading with the teacher on the carpet? We need a carpet in our classroom!
I'm moving on up with my students.
I taught kindergarten last year and am moving to first grade with my same group of students. I saw significant gains with my students and they grew an average of 6 reading levels throughout the year last year. They are amazing children and I wanted to continue to see them grow, I looped with them to continue to push them to reach their potential. In doing this, I needed to move classrooms and lost many things that were in my previous classroom. Our school is in a low-income community and my students deserve to have a quality education and are absolutely capable of achieving every goal set for them.
My Project
Having a carpet in my classroom will continue to push my students to know how much I care about them and how important it is to learn. My students need that intimate time with their classmates and their teacher on the carpet. We need a carpet to have a classroom library, read aloud time, morning meeting, and whole group instructional time. I believe in age appropriate instruction and I think that this will be facilitated by having a carpet area in my classroom.
Due to being in modular trailers, many of the carpets in our school have been destroyed with flooding.
By supporting this project, my first grade students will have the opportunity to engage and collaborate with their classmates throughout the day. We need a carpet in our classroom so that I can read aloud to them and teach whole group lessons in a much more grade level appropriate way.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
