I have the privilege this year of educating the minds of 28 first graders. Twenty-eight first graders who are eager to learn, excited about reading, mastering language arts, pumped about math, and so enthusiastic about the arts. However, they have come into first graders in the midst of horrible budget cuts, that provide a small milestone in achieving these goals.
This passionate group of first graders resides on the Southside of Chicago.
They have the privilege of learning in an environment that believes in personalized learning, flexible seating, and the power of technology. The students are of both African American and Hispanic descent with 99% of our students receive free or reduced-priced lunch. However, they are learning that believing in themselves is all that matters.
My Project
My students need a classroom carpet, or more commonly known as a comfortable, flexible meeting and learning place to continue to encourage learning and collaboration. Our classroom carpet will also provide us with additional flexible seating options for the diverse learners present in our classroom.
In addition, I believe that the space where my students spend the majority of their waking hours (seven hours and thirty minutes), should be reflective of a homelike environment.
A classroom carpet will help us to achieve this goal. It will create a welcoming, friendly space where all learning are encouraged and feel free to learn.
