My Students
My students are amazing. I know this and I haven't even met them yet. So how can I say this? Just look at the face of any little one in your world - isn't that child amazing? Aren't all of our children?
My students want to learn; they want to be successful; they want to feel special; and they want to be recognized for their uniqueness.
Our school is a diverse Title 1 school in the Stapleton neighborhood of Staten Island. Ninety-four percent of our students receive free lunch (just like I did), but I won't let that define them or their future. I see promise and possibility.
My Project
My goal is to make our classroom as cozy and inviting as possible. I want the students to take pride in our room, but more importantly, pride in themselves and their work. It may seem like a small detail, but having a rug over the linoleum in our meeting area would make a world of difference.
I know my students would love to sit on a clean, brightly-colored carpet at the front and center of the room.
The rug we are requesting has cheerful colors, with outlines for every student to have personal space (this is very important to many ten-year-olds). They deserve a comfortable place to sit, learn, and share with their classmates.
