This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an inner city kindergarten teacher in Illinois. My school is centered in a community deemed as low socioeconomic with a high population of English Language Learners and students with special needs. I am privileged because my students are enthusiastic and eager learners that are excited to learn new things.
My students enter the classroom every day energized, ready to learn, and thrilled for what is in store for them that day.
I want to make sure I am helping in laying the foundation for them to be successful at school and in everyday life.
My Project
For many of my students’, kindergarten is their first experience in a school environment. So, organization is very important. To ensure I can provide my students an opportunity to an organized, effective, and well-informed education, I need assistance with resources.
A carpet can help build our learning community by providing them with comfortable seating as we read books on tolerance and accepting each other.
It will enable students to join together and participate in story time and group activities. The carpet can brighten the classroom, help teach a lesson, and send a message that reading and math is fun. Students will be able to move between their desks and the floor throughout the day so they are not confined to one seat in the classroom, but remain comfortable.
Having this carpet will provide students with a place of their own within our classroom.
